Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an added step to the sign-in process, which improves your security by requiring you to use a separate device to help verify your identity. All LISD staff will need to go through this process.

Different job roles in LISD are assigned different MFA accounts. Please refer to the tab below that corresponds to the app you need to enroll in.

Summary

Duo Security offers the Duo Mobile app that LISD staff use to securely log into applications with two-factor authentication. This article provides you with instructions for how to respond to push notifications sent by Duo Mobile. If you have not already setup your Duo Mobile account, please refer to the Duo Security Enrollment article.

Guide

The screenshots provided were captured during the tutorial exercises offered during the self-enrollment process. Your notifications will contain different verbiage, but the process and significance of each response remains the same.

Note

If you chose to not allow push notifications from Duo during the self-enrollment process, you will have to manually open the Duo Mobile app each time you try to log into most resources while outside the LISD network.

Deny Authentication

Authentication requests from Duo should NEVER be approved if you have are not actively trying to log into an LISD resource. It is important to Deny the request in the Duo Mobile app if you did not do something to trigger the unexpected notification.

The example below prompts you to imagine you are seeing a request, but you are not trying to log in. In situations like these, it is critical to tap on the Deny option provided in the Duo Mobile app.

Approve Authentication

Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself before approving an authentication request:

  • Are you expecting the request?
  • Is the request for an app you are starting to use right now?
  • Is the request from the location you are right now?

The example below prompts you to imagine you are seeing a request while trying to log into an LISD resource. In situations like these when you can confidently answer “yes" to the questions above, it is safe to tap on the Approve option provided in the Duo Mobile app.

Note

If you accidentally approved an authentication request, please report it to the Help Desk immediately by calling 972-350-1833.

After completing the practice exercises (or choosing to skip), Duo will congratulate you on successfully confirming your identity. Please tap on the Next button to continue.

6. Manage Permission Settings

It is recommended to allow notifications from Duo Mobile, so you can verify your identity from your mobile device's lock screen. If you choose to tap on the Allow notifications option, you will receive a push notification to approve or deny any authentication requests.

Note

If you choose to not allow notifications at this time and tap on the Skip option, you will have to manually open the Duo Mobile app each time you try to login to most applications while outside the LISD network.

The next screen offers you the choice of whether or not to allow Duo Mobile to collect usage data. Please make the selection you wish to apply.

If you select the Turn off option, you may receive a confirmation pop-up. Please tap on the OK button to proceed.

7. Complete Setup

Almost there! The final screen of the self-enrollment process within the app will ask you to tap on the OK button and return to the browser you accessed the emailed enrollment link with.

Now that you are done adding the Duo Mobile app to your device, please click on the Continue button on your computer/laptop. Then, you will receive confirmation that you have completed your account setup.

Please wait for further communication from LISD administration before actively using the app.
