Canvas provides different functions for different user types. This article highlights user-specific actions that can be made by parents, students and teachers in Canvas.

User Types

Parents

• See all of their children in the same account
• See the classes, calendars, grades and feedback for each child
• See all of the contact information for each of their child's teachers

Students

• See all of their courses and calendars on the same dashboard with one login
• Upload various media that demonstrates understanding and learning
• Participate in online discussions

Teachers

• Add important dates and due dates to the course calendar
• Send class announcements
• Deliver instructions in a variety of formats, including:
  • Text
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Image
  • Links to external websites and digital resources
• Assign and moderate online discussions between students in the course
• Assign work with both print and digital products
• Create and assign quizzes and tests with a wide variety of interactive response formats
• Assess student work and provide feedback in a variety of formats, including:

  • Video
• Grade assignments that sync with the official LISD Gradebook in Skyward
• Communicate with students and parents via the Canvas message system
