On this page
LISD uses the Microsoft Authenticator app to provide staff with a friendly and secure way to log into applications. This article was created to help set up your account and better protect your identity.

Video
The following tutorial video is provided by Microsoft 365. Specific instructions for LISD staff are available below.
Instructions
The following instructions will identify which device to use during each step of the enrollment process.
On your Computer
When signing into Microsoft 365 for the first time, you'll go through the normal process of entering your LISD email address and password to Sign in.

You will then receive a prompt for additional information. Click Next to proceed.

You'll be prompted to download the Microsoft Authenticator App to your mobile device. Click the Download Now link.

A new browser tab will open to another area of the Microsoft Authenticator website. Scroll down to view the QR codes to locate the app in your mobile device's app store.

On your Mobile Device
Use your mobile device to scan the appropriate QR code and follow the steps to install the app.

On your Computer
Return to the Microsoft login screen on the previous browser tab and click Next.

Read the instructions, then return to your mobile device. If prompted, allow notifications. Then, add an account, and select Work or school.
On your Mobile Device
Open the newly installed Microsoft Authenticator app. On the following screen, tap Accept, Continue, and Add work or school account.

Tap the Scan a QR code option in the pop-up window. This will trigger your camera app to open. If prompted, allow the app to use your device's camera by selecting the While using the app or Only this time option; this is necessary to scan a QR code. Return to your desktop to retrieve the QR code.

On your Computer
Back on your computer, click Next. A QR code will be provided on the next screen.

On your Mobile Device
Use your mobile device to scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen and proceed to add the account to your Microsoft Authenticator app.

On your Computer
Once the account is added, return again to your computer and click Next to test the installation. Take note of the displayed number.
On your Mobile Device
Select the notification from the Microsoft Authenticator app.
Note
If you chose not to allow push notifications from the Microsoft Authenticator app during the self-enrollment process, you will have to manually open the app each time you try to log into most resources while outside the LISD network.
Enter the number displayed on the computer screen and tap YES to confirm you are trying to sign in to the secure resources.

On your Computer
When you return to your computer, the screen will display a “Notification approved” message. Click Next to complete the enrollment process.

MFA is now set up for your Microsoft Authenticator app. With multi-factor authentication, you will now be prompted to use the app under certain conditions, like when signing into Microsoft 365 from a new location or device.
